Richard Pongvitayapanu, MD serves as the Pediatric Medical Advisor for the Bariatric and Metabolic Weight Loss Center. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor who practices in the area of General Pediatrics.
Dr. Pongvitayapanu earned his medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, New York. His Pediatric Residency was completed at the Stony Brook Children’s Hospital in Stony Brook, New York. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.
Dr. Pongvitayapanu earned his Bachelor of Science at Cornell University in Human Biology, Health and Society in the Division of Nutritional Sciences in the College of Human Ecology. He has special interest in childhood obesity prevention/management and integrating nutrition into childhood health. He has experience in treating a range of patients from the newborn period to late adolescence.
Stony Brook's Bariatric Program is designated by MBSAQIP (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) as an accredited Comprehensive Center with Adolescent Qualifications.
